Killer Dinner Rolls

Killer Dinner Rolls
3 cups white flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 1/4 tsp. yeast (1 packet)
1 cup milk
3 Tbs. butter
1 egg

Melt the butter and heat the milk to between 120-130 degrees (hot to the touch).  Mix 1 cup of flour with the sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.  Pour in the heated milk and melted butter, along with the egg.  Blend with an electric mixer for 2 minutes.  Add the remaining 2 cups of flour and mix a large spoon util you form a dough ball.

Knead the dough on a well floured surface for 2 minutes, then form into a ball.  Pour a couple of tablespoons of olive oil in a large bowl (or grease the bottom of the bowl with Crisco if you prefer).  Place the dough ball in the bowl, then take it out and put it back in upside down (now the greased or oiled side is up).  Cover and let rise for 1 1/2 - 2 hours in a warm place.  The oil or grease keeps tension off the dough and helps it rise.

After rising, punch down the dough, then roll into a large pizza shape.  After rolling, cut the dough into 16 equal size slices and roll them from the outside into the inside point.  Place on a cookie sheet with the point down.  After the second rising, bake at 425 degrees for about 8 minutes.

Makes: 16 rolls
